Natural Weight Loss Supplements.
Natural Weight Loss Supplements.
There is literally hundreds of natural weight loss products offered around the internet. We have looked at some of the most popular & have scoured the internet to find solid research to support the claims made online.
Eating well & exercising constantly, can be difficult to maintain. If you believe everything written online there are extra measures you can take to boost your weight loss efforts.
Herbs and supplements claim turn fat into muscle, reduce appetite and boost energy and endurance levels. Many herbs boost your metabolism and resting thermogenesis (resting metabolism). There is research around to say that you can actually lose most of your weight whilst sleeping. You will see on the our journey page, the trials we are conducting with some supplements.
Below are some of the supplements that we have found.
This is also known as Garcinia Gummi-gutta, or Malabar Tamarind. It’s a green to pale yellow fruit native to Indonesia. There is significant media attention surrounding the product for weight loss purposes, but clinical evidence is lacking for this fruit to date.
Garcinia essentially contains the chemical (HCA) Hydroxycitric Acid, there is some research around HCA’s ability to prevent fat storage, control appetite & increase exercise endurance.
From our research there doesn’t appear to be any human clinical studies. There are several ‘revolutionary’ weight loss products that include this product.
In terms of being able to grow the Garcinia Cambogia, it looks like you will need to be in a tropical climate, so if you are wanting to try out the properties of HCA it might be worth buying it unfortunately.
What we did find from our research is that;
- It may speed up your metabolism. There has been some research on both humans & rodents to suggest this to be the case.
- Garcinia Cambogia enhances Athletic performance. We can see around the internet that there are some studies that support these claims. We have only seen studies up to 12 weeks.
Potential side effects.
Some of the side effects that we have heard of are.
- dry mouth.
- stomach aches.
As with anything, especially if you are taking medicines it’s best to talk to your doctor before trying the Garcinia Cambogia.
Ginseng as a natural weight loss supplement.
- Ginseng Is essentially a slowly growing perennial plant with fleshy roots.
- Sales of Ginseng in over 35 countries amounted to $2.1 billion USD in 2013.
- Ginseng grows naturally in North America & Eastern Asia.
From a weight loss perspective Ginseng is known to speed up your metabolism & give you increased energy.
There have been several studies relating to Ginseng & as a general rule Ginseng has been proven beneficial on many levels.
The benefits of Ginseng for type II diabetes is well recognised and has become increasingly important in giving hope to patients with type II diabetes. There seems to be a direct correlation between taking Ginseng & lowering blood sugar levels.
There are obvious side effects that can potentially arise when taking almost anything for some people & Ginseng is no different.
Some of the potential side effects include;
- Difficulty sleeping.
- Dry Mouth.
Some experts say to not use Ginseng for more than 3 months at a time.
Natural Weight Loss Supplements, L-Carnitine.
Well to start with L-Carnitine doesn’t sound overly natural, although it is essentially a relatively non essential amino acid that can help with energy levels. The natural place where L-Carnitine can be found is in animal products like White or Red Meat.
This product is also widely available in a powder or pill form. In fact body builders have been using L-Carntine for many years & it has recently been in the tip of peoples tongue for use in weight loss.
How it works.
L-Carnitine essentially works to transfer fatty acids into ‘energy’, so this will essentially increase your ability to workout. Obviously the more fatty acids you turn into energy & burn through exercise will make you lose weight. (in simple terms)
The question is do I need L-Carnitine supplements or is there enough in my body already?
If you look at some websites they say to avoid taking it as a supplement, other websites say that you should take more than what is produced by eating red or white meat.
L-Carnitine seems to be very polarising between different authors of websites, so what I will be doing over the next few weeks is trying the product for myself & I will report the results.
Once again Phaseolamin doesn’t sound too natural, although the layman term is white kidney bean extract. There is also some really good research showing the weight loss benefits of Phaseolamin.
White kidney beans, also called cannelini beans, are a concentrated source of the compound phaseolamin.
Theoretically, phaseolamin’s enzyme-blocking powers reduce the number of carbohydrate-based calories that are absorbed and converted into body fat.
Although phaseolamin seems to offer a sort of cheater’s charter, it does appear to provide a harmless and easy way for people to eat starchy foods and still lose weight. However, it is important to mention upfront that it should not be viewed as a licence to go ahead and overeat or fill up on unlimited amounts of carbohydrates.
Phaseolamin combines with an enzyme in the body called alpha-amylase – which is involved in the digestion of starch – and temporarily blocks its activities.
Alpha-amylase is secreted in saliva and by your pancreas and is responsible for breaking down starch into simple sugars, which can then be absorbed in the small intestine.
Blocking this digestive enzyme prevents the digestion of carbohydrates, which means they are able to pass largely undigested through the gastrointestinal tract. The end result is a decrease in the number of calories absorbed, thereby helping to promote weight loss.
Cassiolamine is the dry fruit extract of Cassia Nomame, a legume that contains five flavonoid compounds, being the most potent inhibitor of lipase 2s-3, 4, 7-triidroflavano catechin. Cassiolamine inhibits the action of the enzyme lipase, which is responsible for digestion of fat, leading to a loss of up to 30% of ingested fats.
There is not a great deal of research regarding Cassiolamine or Cassia Nomame, although the general consensus is that, Cassia Nomame prevents the stomach & intestines from absorbing dietary fat. This will cause the dietary fat to be excreted in your bowel movements.
The plant is actually originally from China. Cassia Nomame currently grows wildly in many regions and areas all over the world. This herb is threatened with habitat devastation. In traditional medicine, cassia nomame usage has been reported to increase the flow of human urine. Hama-cha, a popular tea in Japan is a water-based extract of this plant.
The extract of this plant Cassiolamine can also be found in many different weight loss products, such as Valentus Slim Roast Coffee.
Green Tea Extract.
Green Tea is possibly the most researched natural ‘remedy’ known to man. Green Tea is made from the Camellia Sinesis plant.
Many people rely upon green tea for everything from depression to Weight loss. Recently in Australia one person has had an extremely adverse reaction to Green Tea Extract, although in General the product is considered safe.
Green tea is also a great source of antioxidants—called catechins—that help support immune function, cardiovascular health, and fat loss. Above all, green tea just goes really, really well with sushi.
Numerous epidemiological studies show that regular consumption of green tea has a net positive effect on overall health. Even as a supplement, green tea can be a worthwhile addition to your dietary habits, especially if your goal is fat loss.
Green Coffee Bean or Chlorogenic Acid.
Chlorogenic acid is the extract that comes from Green Coffee Beans & once you roast the coffee bean the chlorogenic acid is greatly reduced. There are now many companies marketing Chlorogenic acid or green coffee bean extract as a weight loss product.
There has actually been very little research on the effects of Green Coffee bean & most of the completed research has been using quite small samples.
In saying this there have been several studies conducted on rats & mice that would seem to support the notion that Chlorogenic acid can reduce fat.
